The condom theory
Everyone wants to feel that they are important. This is the reason why you have different service/product plan such as silver, gold and platinum or deluxe and premium. There are rarely basic or starter plans nowadays. Customers want to buy or belong to a plan that is of high value and status.
This is the same as what I call the condom theory. Almost all condoms nowadays come in the size of big, large, extra large. Which man wants to buy a small size condom and admit that their penis is small!?
The thing here is even if you are offering a really basic service; named it well where your customers will feel that they are important and of value.

it's an effective marketing plan. it seems like everyone want to be better or the best, so he/she will buy more products gaining points to shift to upper level.
Actually this approach really doesn't have that great of impact. Today’s customers see this and chuckle to themselves that a company would consider them so naive. Cool names yes, but not as a deception tool and like marketing of the last century it lays to deceive the customer to thinking of value when there is not.
Customers now days, at least for the most part, understand the failure of marketing and branding to deliver on the brand promise. If you fail to meet the delivery they switch. In fact they are more apt to switch to another brand than stay when false marketing is used. So name it what you will but be honest in what is implied.
If really think men by extra large just because they have the hope that it will make them that way your crazy. A teenager yes, but beyond that your dreamin.

yes, I've noticed. There's no such thing as "economy" or "beginners" anymore but the public can't be fooled. The price says it all. I didn't know about the condom theory until this. Okay, that was a funny comparison. Can't we have the Bra Theory next?
